Why do people use spyware scanner if they already have a antivirus?
I read alot of posts that help prevent users from viruses and other unwanted objects but i have found many people recommending an antivirus and a spyware scanner, not just the one. What's the problem with just an antivirus? is the antivirus virus scanner not good enough? but i thought these days anti-virus detected anti-spyware and rootkits etc

- It's two different annoying things to detect on your computer!!
- Anti virus keeps dangerous viruses away, some anti viruses have anti spyware removals, some don't.That is why additional anti spyware are built to remove spy programs or rogue programs. Most spy programs appear as legit ones and the anti virus detect them as legit untill the spy/rogue starts to act and block partially or entirelly the anti virus protection and even windows boot.
- There is a belief that antivirus' detection rate of spyware is not as good as dedicated antispyware (the truth of this belief is unknown). Antivirus have only begun to take on spywares seriously a few years ago.
- Because viruses and spyware are two different things. An antivirus doesn't prevent you from getting spyware and adware like Personal Antivirus, Windows Antivirus 2009, etc. Antispyware software can. I use Microsoft Security Essentials with both antivirus and antispyware combined.
- spy ware....is not same as virus not all antivirus have FIREWALL tHE spyware needs antivirus which has and " FIREWALL"
- Well antivirus is only scanning for virus signs and antispyware is for scanning spyware signs but many people thought most of the antivirus protects from spyware but sad to say that they dont do a 100% block on spywares. eg. you come across a website that is spyware all over it but your antivirus detects only maybe 1 or 2 of it only and that could be a great big problem. But some of the antivirus do protect 100% from spyware and viruses.?what kind of antivirus? Well the one i use ESET NOD32 Antivirus protects that and i proved it by doing some test same goes for: NORTON MCAFEE TREND MICRO KASPERSKY ESET and BITDEFENDER and no the antivirus scanners are great for antivirus prducts today they just have to improve the database and heuristies.
