I use, and frequently update, the following programs: 1) AVG Free antivirus 2) AdAware Personal 3) Spybot 4) Registry Mechanic 5.1 5) Spyware Doctor 3.5 6) Mozilla Firefox browser 7) XP Home I not only run scheduled scans, but also do manual scans. In addition, I do both automatic and manual updates. How comfortable would those of you more knowledgeable than me feel with these programs guarding you? Sorry, I forgot #8 which I was just reminded of. 8) Windows firewall is on 8a) Windows Virus Protection is too! No, no router. Quite frankly, I barely know what one is! LOL

How do I get spyware off my PC? I'm currently running Windows XP on my home PC, and it recently got infected with spyware sometime last night. There are about 5 diffeent accounts on XP, and the PC's been getting alot slower over the last year. Not sure how it happened, but last night I think I might of accidently clicked on some sort of popup, and now there's some sort of virus/spyware on my PC. There's this big red circle with an "X" in it on my toolbar, and now there's this program called Antivirus Pro 2008 that's been installed too. I went into the control panel and tried to uninstall it, but ever time I try I get a mesage telling me "Antivirus Pro is already installed"...which makes no sense because i'm trying to get rid of it. After that I went to CNET and downloded Spyware Doctor which actually scanned my PC and found a lot of spyware, but it couldn't rmove them because I didn't didn't register. Since that didn't work I went to Symantec and downloaded Norton 360, which is scaning right now, so i'm not sure how effective it will be. So my question to you guys is this; is there anything I could do to remove the spyware? And if not, is it possible for my to wipe my PC, and start over? I still have the Application And OS software that came with the PC. Thanks in advance
I Can't Find Personal AntiVirus File In My Computer? Okay, so I know first of all Personal AntiVirus is a scam. I accidentally clicked 'install' when my computer froze and there were like 20 pop ups on my computer! Well thats over now but now I have Personal AntiVirus stuck on my PC. I can't find the file anywhere in "Add or Remove Programs" or my local disk C! I deleted the SHORTCUTS for them and emptied the recycle bin. The shortcuts did not work, no matter how many times I tried to click on the Uninstall shortcut for Personal AntiVirus! I have Malware Anti-Malwarebytes installed and running a full scan right now, I probably will continue the scan tomorrow. I also have AVIRA security and have deleted 5 detections from my computer. I've installed a Personal AntiVirus removal tool but it just seems to be sitting there doing nothing! Well its not really a removal tool I guess...its called PC Tools Spyware Doctor and I dont even know why I installed it in the first place...btw I'm only 12 so I'm not good with this stuff lol. I looked everywhere, and I can't seem to find the Personal AntiVirus file in my computer so I can remove the program! If you know where it is, please tell me. I hate having these pop-ups and unability to go to my daily websites...because the pop-ups say, "Oooh warning this is a hazardous site and you dont have protection blahblahblah" from Personal AntiVirus. Anyway, help me pleasee :(!

PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus in its 'History' says: 'Threar Name - Trojan.FakeAlert Type - Startup Risk Level - High Infection - HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-230082787-1045259838-1906006367-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, LosAlamos = rundll32.exe' but in regedit i cannot find "LosAlamos = rundll32.exe" plus many more like them!!! where is this worm?!!
My IE automatically opens upon startup and randomly opens to commercial website.? My IE automatically opens upon startup and randomly opens while windows is operating to this site: http://www.webthangs.com/count/rotate/cl... When it does this IE protected mode is "off". This problem does not occur when I boot in safe mode (w/ networking). I have scanned (with updated definitions) using (1) spybot, (2), lavaware- ad-ware, (3) malwarebytes' anti malware, (4) SUPERantispyware free edition, (5) symantec Antivirus corporate edition, (6) PC tools spyware doctor, (7) norman, (8) AVG anti-virus free edition, and (9) windows defender. And I still have this problem. I have found and removed tons of other malware but this problem persists. I also deleted a "launcher" program using spybot's system startup tool, because it was described as spyware. this did not stop the problem either. Also, I downloaded IE 8.2 beta and firefox 3.0, but they too randomly open. Please help. thanks Brian Thanks Dunbar. From now on, I will take these precautionary measures. But blocking 3rd party cookies has not stopped the random unrequested website from opening. Any other thoughts? thanks
causes of lag ? usually when i search for causes of lag , it's always that the hardware isnt good enough to support the software or game or virus or so that's causing the lag. however , what could cause an overnight lag ? as in you were able to play this same games for years without prob and all of a sudden your com suddenly lagged when you play the same game. lets assume your com laggginess is not cause by viruses cause thats what happen to me com . i've scan with known reliable antivirus and antispyware such as NOD32 , avg 7.5 , kaspersky , ad aware , spyware terminator , spyware doctor .. yes , some require payment but i scan and my com is clean. wad do you mean about the capacitor ? anyway for disk space , i parition my hard drive into 2 drives. the C: drive which i install the game in is fine and have lots of space ( recently formatted ) , the other drive is quite full , of 17 gigs , it left about 1 or so or maybe lesser. for the main drives it's about 30+ gigs or so and still have perhaps 20+ gigs left .. so does the partition drive affects my com ? tried that before too , i ctrl alt del immediately after i install my windows , and check the list of stuff running , den also did the same check after i install all the appropriate drives without going to the net . so i can safely assume there isnt any process that's eating my com. my computer usually shows a 4% of cpu usage when doing nth at all. lag arise when i play games . the lag doesnt exist before , it's all of a sudden it happen ... =( and i don't have any idea.
How do I get rid of a backdoor trojan? The trojan is backdoor.generic2.YED and it always re-appears in my c drive as b.exe even after removing it with AVG. I have tried heaps of different spyware removers including: Adaware, Spyware doctor, Prev1x, and none seem to work. I have run Hijack this and below is a log of the scan. What is wrong with my computer and how to disconnect something that might be causing it? Please help. I'm extremely frustrated for the umpteenth time with my computer. This time, it appears that something was updated automatically and may have tampered with the "Spyware Doctor" program that starts automatically upon rebooting. Normally, "Spyware Doctor" takes about ten minutes to complete its scan. However, it won't stop UNTIL you go and try to open something up like the computer's control panel (so that I can disconnect "Spyware Doctor"!). Once try to do this, "Spyware Doctor" stops, but then the computer freezes. I can't even do a "CTR-ALT-DEL" My only choice, and I've done it over a dozen times now, is to manually press the on/off button to reboot! Then, this whole Twilight Zone-like loop starts again. It's an HP PC (XP) with 1.5 GB RAM. We have Reg Cure to keep our registry in shape. We have Webroot Spysweeper. We have Norton 360 antivirus plus. It has been slow, but I clean/defrag files daily. I'm about to violently thrust this thing out the window!
lagging issues , need help =(? hey guys i really need help . my com is like 2.5 gig i think , 512 ram , geforce4mx 64mb graphic cards i think and such.. 6mbps internet connection speed. i scan my com with antivirus such as avg , nod32 , kaspersky ( yep i use their trial period to do it ) and also lava soft , spyware doctor etc. no virus , spyware or such to lag my com. however i lag when playing games like muonline , frozen throne ... the prob is i don't lag when playing counter strike which require better stats to play .. so i don't know whats my actual problem . the only prob i think is my video card having the prob... and for frozen throne , if i play alone without connecting to others , it run quite smoothly actually. so anyone got any theory or idea ? is my internet connection being the cause ? i have also formatted my com. btw i have partition my harddrive into 2 drives. i hope you guys get wad i mean. and my probs seems to happen overnight , a few months ago actually. oh , but to add on , i have no lag since i start playing .. all the way till several months ago .. it's like over night , my whole com turn super crap in the games i played. furthermore , people using the same ISP and speed as me encounter no problems at all =(
ooh wtf is going on? Computer finds a virus 2 years later ? More than 2 years actualy... I downloaded something like 2 years ago and forgot all about it, it was in some file within a file within a file within a file on my desktop. And there was a bunch of stuff. I think it was supposed to be some sort of game or something. So there was an autorun file and blah blah but I never opened anything I never touched it basically. Yes it was from online not a disk. Anyway... So I've had an antivirus always. Ny norton ran out recently and I got a new one, so 2 weeks later I am just browsing the internet when norton says it's found some suspicious program. Then 5 minutes later it has blocked and deleted a virus. So the only problem is that when I went to get the details this virus was or was IN the file from about 2 years ago that I've still never touched. So why did it take 2 years to find.. or what's going on here? I suppose it was a dodgy file but I forgot all about it. I was supposed to reformat the computer like 10 times because it used to belong to someone else, but I never got around to it. But my question remains. ??? I also have spyware doctor and that never picked anything up. I don't exactly feel safe and does anyone know what the deal is because I've used this computer for banking and all sorts. Nothing seems/seemed wrong with it. and do not bother telling me to use a different antivrus. That isn't answering my question, and anyway, I had McAfee in the past I just pick up whatever and it will be staying that way. If you can't answer the question then kindly go to an easier section. Thanks. And yes I will be reformatting it now. sorry but the reason I said that is that everytime I ask a question all people ever do is answer that I need to buy a different program. That's not helpful at all. answer my question or be reported. I already know about those programs answer my question or be reported. I already know about those programs ohhh !! thankyou that makes total sense !! So wait, where could I have go this virus from if I wasn't downloading anything?? I was just browsing.. youtube and some other legit sites. Ebay, news, blah blah. Or would norton have just caught it as it was trying to get in or was I actually all infected I thought that for some reason norton would only have become aware of this virus 2 years later like the dude said, but this doesn't make sense. Also the antivirus updates all the time, i'm not stupid.
Google keeps redirecting me. possible virus or malware.? I have been having many problems with my computer recently. I believe I have some sort of malware. about 50% of the time I click on a link in google it takes me to a site I didnt want, Blinkx.com is a frequent one. It has also stopped me from watching videos online that use flash player. And I cant update any antivirus/spyware/malware programs. I have tried many different antivirus programs separately and none of them work. such as avg, nod32 and avast. I have tried ad-aware, spy-doctor, spybot search and destroy and superantispyware and still no luck. I have tried updating many of them from their sites and running them. sometimes they find malware/spyware/virus's and say theyve got rid of them but it keeps happening. I've not had more than one antivirus installed at any one time so i'm completely stuck. I've run hijeckthis and here is my log. Can restoring a computer to its factory settings elminate any viruses that compromised your computer b4? Recently, I got hit with a win32 or vundo Trojan virus that kept dealing me loads of pops ups (not sure if its adware/spyware oriented) sorry I'm (not fluent in comp viruses). My comp is 5 years old, its an HP Pavilion a630n been happy with it & don't have the money to buy anything new anyhow. Just bought & installed immediately Trend Micro & Norton Antivirus Security 2008 package and I downlaoded and installed Threatfire, Windows Defender, Superantispyware, Spy Doctor, etc etc..all of them worked and caught cookies and viruses one of the other. But still everytime I thought the problem was solved, it wasn't. If I were to reinstall my computer's operating system to factory setting which means back to the way the computer came to me from scratch, would the virus that has been lingering and has been causing all these pop up problems still be there if I re installed Windows XP to factory settings again. or your can only reinstall Windows XP to factory settings only one time??? Thnx

can anybody suggest a better antivirus+anti spyware+IDtheft block+anti-vermin all in one protection for my PC? I have used some protection suite, but none seems to me suitable and all have some sort of drawbacks: AVG 7.5.x Internet security suite: firewall disabled on every re boot of my pc. unabled to provide real time protection against tracking cookies and spywares, pc slows down during scheduled scan Mcaffe internet security suity 2007: full of unnecessary warning in almost every command, unable to provide against tracking cookies, slow to automatic update, consumes a huge application memory for many unnecessary actions like hacker watch, online network traffic monitor etc. Norton internet security suite 2007: pc slows down while web surfing, download speed decreases considerably. slow to downloading auto update spyware doctor: pc slows down , and even freezes while scanning and its actitive protection consumes a huge amount of application memory that pc takes command action so late. my pc work is mainly web based. Please suggest a better all in one protection for my pc.
If you have your hard drive 95% full does it make the computer run any slower than if it was 10% full? I was wondering since my friends always tell me that my computer always runs slow because I have many items on my desktop, I think It's just my 333MHZ processor. I keep my computer well maintainted, there are no viruses, adware or spyware, and I have software to clean out cookies and temp files, and I occasionally defragment. If I deleted some stuff will it make the computer run any faster? Oh and I only have about 5 things that run at start up, Norton antivirus, Spyware doctor, WinampAgent, and some windows thingy, and that's it. What could it be? 266MB of ram by the way!
What Is The Best Antivirus Program From This List? One that is very effective, but still does not slow or crash your computer. One of my computers has only 2.00 GB of RAM memory, while the others have 4.00 GB. 1. Norton 2. Spyware Doctor 3. Kaspersky 4. AVG (despite being very expensive for three computers) 5. McAfee

Stubborn Virus/Spyware. (Windows Update Keeps Getting Disabled.)? I believe I have what is called the 'Vundo Virus' but I am not sure. My automatic updates has stopped working after I downloaded a program which I thought was safe - well obviously I was wrong. No matter what I do, I cannot turn my automatic updates on. I've tried it through IE, the computer, everything. Apparently if I get rid of it, it comes back. I've had this thing for months now and dread a Windows Re-Install. (Would a system restore work?) I've had this thing for at least 5-6 months and I can't wait any longer for a solution. I have Avast as my antivirus, COMODO Firewall Pro, and Spyware Doctor.. Please let me know what I can do to get rid of this thing!

How do locate the source of Google hijacking? Ever since spyware was installed the other day (and I removed it), Google has been redirecting to other spyware websites, and it says 'analitic-checks.google.com' in the status bar. I have used every spyware removal program under the sun. Here is my process report from HijackThis: R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://wapp.verizon.net/bookmarks/bmredir.asp?region=all&bw=fiber&cd=7.0unattached&bm=ho_central R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:8080 F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file) O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Verizon Broadband Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-8CB0-AB60BB9AAE22} - C:\PROGRA~1\VOL_TO~1\VOL_TO~1.DLL O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {A8F38D8D-E480-4D52-B7A2-731BB6995FDD} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Verizon Broadband Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-8CB0-AB60BB9AAE22} - C:\PROGRA~1\VOL_TO~1\VOL_TO~1.DLL O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dell AIO Printer A940] "C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A940\dlbabmgr.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Codec Update Service] C:\Program Files\Essentials Codec Pack\update.exe -silent O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSC_UserPrompt] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\UsrPrmpt.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NAV CfgWiz] "C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\CfgWiz.exe" /GUID {0D7956A2-5A08-4ec2-A72C-DF8495A66016} /MODE CfgWiz /CMDLINE "REBOOT" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISTray] "C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsTray.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DriverUpdaterPro] C:\Program Files\XPC Tools\Driver Updater Pro\DriverUpdaterPro.exe -t O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~4\Office10\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: AIM - {AC9E2541-2814-11d5-BC6D-00B0D0A1DE45} - C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU) O16 - DPF: {01113300-3E00-11D2-8470-0060089874ED} (Support.com Configuration Class) - https://activatemyfios.verizon.net/sdcCommon/download/FIOS/Verizon%20FiOS%20Installer.cab O16 - DPF: {1011E032-5CF3-4795-B751-3AA5E008CCA6} - http://download.verizon.net/sfp/Cabs/max_update/VOLUpdate_1-0-0.cab O16 - DPF: {9E17A5F9-2B9C-4C66-A592-199A4BA1FBC8} - http://pictures04.aim.com/ygp/aol/plugin/upf/AOLUPF.en-US-AIM.9.5.1.8.cab O16 - DPF: {B9191F79-5613-4C76-AA2A-398534BB8999} - http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/suite/yautocomplete.cab O16 - DPF: {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} (Shockwave Flash Object) - https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab O20 - Winlogon Notify: RunOnceEx - C:\WINDOWS\ O23 - Service: Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice) - Lavasoft - F:\Programs\adware\aawservice.exe O23 - Service: Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler - Symantec Corpor
(Windows XP Pro) NTLDR at boot corrupted, creating a chain reaction Please help? Hello fellow Geeks, Saterday I went to start my computer (Dell Xps Gen 4) and during boot Dos text informed I had an important NTLDR missing. I could do nothing but restart my system. I tracked down some information on how to fix the NTLDR file. I popped my windows xp pro cd into my cd rom drive and booted from there. I was planning on installing the OS all over again, but I noticed a repair option. Luckly after it repaired my system, I was able to keep most of my programs etc. I make this sound easy but it was like a 6 hour job biggrin.gif. Now I'm am trying to get my PC back to the way it was before the NTLDR missing issue and my pc wants to install "Security Update for Windows XP (KB956744)" I downloaded and I have the yellow shield icon in my right hand tray. But they will not install. I attempt to install, it proceeds, it closes. Then pops right back up saying I need to install them again. I ran a complete scan with Anti-Spyware and Malware Megabytes in safe mode and they did not find any infections. I ran the windows clean up utility and still no luck. I ran dial a fix and it states so files like jesetup.dll, imgutil.dll, inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll, and many more were corrupt in my System32 folder. I downloaded the security pack from Microsoft administrator's options where you can personally get the file your looking for. It said it installed successfully. But I'm still getting the installer icon. I also tried a clean boot, Msconfig>disabled all 3rd party services except my Nvidia driver service. I also tried a programs called Tune up utlities 09 it has a disk doctor. Pretty much the same thing as Window check disk. Still to o avail. I think I need those corrupted files in my system32. But I didn't want to go downloading the .dll files not knowing what is correct or compatible. I'm so stuck I have no clue what I'm am to do to fix this?
